In an interview for USA Today Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint talked about their future plans and how they can leave behind the Harry Potter kids image. Dan had his Equus, and Rupert has his Cherrybomb. For Emma, she says it's modelling. "People see me as Hermione in real life. They forget that I'm acting. We're quite different people. I want people to understand that I'm versatile," Watson says. "My way of hoping people would see me differently was through modeling. I worked very hard and did a lot of modeling shoots. Burberry offered me the campaign. That has moved me away a little bit. I'm not good at selling myself."

Emma says her focus for the next four years will be university, and she's not going to worry about what comes after that now. She'd like to work with directors Alfonso Cuaron and Guillermo del Toro but doesn't feel any pressure. "Acting never was about the money for me. … Maybe in 10 years, I'll be able to appreciate the fact that I am financially stable and independent and I don't have to make bad choices. I can be very picky."

'Harry Potter' star Emma Watson has ruled out moving from the UK to Hollywood because she thinks actresses here are too "bitchy."

Admitting that the lifestyle and weather is great here in LA, it's still not enough to get her pack her bags and move across the pond.

"Gosh, I could never be that bitchy," she told AOL's Moviefone. "I think that living in England, it's very disconnected from Hollywood. There's a very different approach and attitude towards it. Acting in a starry way is just not tolerated. You will just have the p**s taken out of you."

"I think that it's a wonderful lifestyle that you have [in LA]," she added. "The weather is amazing and everyone seems very healthy.

"It seems like a really nice place to live. Obviously, if I had to film here or whatever, then that would be great. But I don't really know a lot of people here."

Some actresses can't handle LA, so it's probably a good idea for her to stay away. If she lived here, we would have already seen about a half dozen naked photos of her and possibly a "leaked" sex tape. They're not kidding when they say Hollywood sucks you in and spits you back out.

Emma Watson is still waiting for her "knight in shiny armor".

The 18-year-old actress - who shot to fame playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise - has set her sights on finding a boyfriend in 2009.

But Watson says finding the right guy is proving difficult - even though she's not particularly fussy.

She says, "A good boyfriend is hard to find. There aren't a lot of gentlemen out there and unfortunately I'm still waiting for my knight in shiny armor.

"I'm sure he will come along at some point. Ideally he has to be intelligent, to be interesting, and I have to be able to hold a conversation with him.

"I don't want someone who bores me out of my mind. Actually, he will just have to make me laugh, really."

'I’ve never seen a “good behaviour” clause (she refers to her reported Warner contract) – I honestly think that’s a myth – but I actually wouldn’t ever need one. It’s just not necessary. I’m not tempted by parties or drugs. I don’t actually like being drunk, particularly in public. But I do understand why people get sucked into a party lifestyle. I can see how it happens so I’d never criticise someone who gets into all that. It can get pretty tough. But you have choices in life. If I want to lead as private and as normal a life as possible I just can’t go there. So I don’t.’
She grins. ‘Daniel (Radcliffe), Rupert (Grint) and me have been incredibly protected doing the Harry Potter movies. There seems to be this feeling that all of us were bursting to break out of these images we had created but that’s never been the case. We all share the same view. None of us court celebrity, none of us want to be part of the game.’

While some websites and reports have claimed that she has chosen a University, Emma Watson says again that she is still undecided, and states of her desire to further her education while acting. "Jodie Foster did it, Natalie Portman did it,’ she says. ‘I think it’s entirely possible to juggle university with filming...‘I actually think going to university will make me a better actress. The experience of living like that, working to deadlines, living with other students. It’s all the things I want."

Finally, Emma Watson speaks again to a role in the Napoleon and Betsy film that she has been rumored to be taking on for some time now. ‘It’s a strong relationship but it’s not sexual,’ she says. ‘It’s very complex. A touching of souls. She was a very young girl and he was this older, incredible man. I read the script two years ago and just knew this was the perfect film for me.’

Emma Watson May Head to U.S. For College

Emma Watson is expected to head to Cambridge, but she says that she is also considering going to college in the United States.

“I’ve applied to a few universities for next year, including several American ones. If I do go there I will do a liberal arts degree, but if I stay in the UK I’ll do English Literature,” Emma told The Independent.

Emma wants to live as normal a life as possible and will continue to act as she pursues her university studies. I wonder where she would go over here!

Exclusively we tell you that Emma's new movie, The Tale Of Despereaux will be played in LatinAmerica in two versions: one in spanish, and the other with the original voices! Although there isn't a confirmed date, by January 2009, the movie is going to have mexican singer Belinda as the voice for Emma's character in the movie, Princesa Pea. This is what she said: “I'm extremely happy, it was an amazing experience”, she told mexican diary Milenio.

The singer said she was captivated by the princess and her message. “The idea of being a princess was what attracted me to the movie. Why? Because it's a very cool princess, with a great personality, but she isn't ordinary. She's not the typical princess. She's actually got a temper”, she told us.

Juliette Baxter catches up with Emma Watson, England’s “It” Girl and newest trend-setter, as she graduates from Harry Potter to Hollywood. Photography by Lorenzo Agius.

Finally, a young starlet who doesn’t suggest she’s “just a regular girl” who happens to be living the dream. Emma Watson, 18, more commonly known as Hermione Granger from the billion-dollar Harry Potter franchise, would have a hard time convincing us she’s anything but extraordinary. She’s one of the top earning young stars in the world, reportedly pocketing $4 million [note from bravelittletoaster: that would be Canadian dollars] a movie; she’s starring in the animated feature The Tale of Despereaux (look for it next month) alongside Hollywood heavyweights Dustin Hoffman and Matthew Broderick; she’s a red-carpet fave, sporting Chanel couture often and effortlessly; she’s finished her A Levels (that’s senior year in the U.K.) with A+ marks; and she considers Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling an inspiration–and a friend.

“[Rowling's] always told me I remind her of herself, which is so unbelievable because she’s so amazing,” says Watson, stumbling over her words and the comparison. The best advice she’s received from the woman she personally calls “Jo” came when Watson confided in Rowling regarding a major life decision (which she remains elusive about): “Trust yourself. I know you will succeed at anything you do.”

The evidence of her success is compelling. At nine years old, she was among thousands of girls vying to play the coveted role of Hermione and her eagerness to thrive at the character slowed down shooting during Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. “I wanted everything to be so perfect. I would work so hard to memorize my lines and the scene; we would have to stop shooting because I was mouthing Rupert [Grint]’s and Dan [Radcliffe]’s lines at the same time. That’s something I had to get over.”

Seven years later, the young actor has graduated to blockbuster star status. She’s learned to position herself in her best light, she’s stopped looking straight into the camera, she knows the different between the key grip and a dolly, and she’s just wrapped one of her most challenging scenes in the highly anticipated Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, slated for release in July 2009. “I had to cry for the first time when Hermione watches Ron kiss Lavender. It was difficult to bring up all that emotion and hurt in front of a full crew, and not just once, but over and over again from different angles.”

Watson’s not only grown as an actor but also a burgeoning style setter. She’s quick to rhyme off her favourite labels: Chanel, Burberry, Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga. “I don’t like to look too perfect,” she says. “I like to mix and match my own outfits.” She’s especially proud of the vintage outfit she pulled together with her mom and Harry Potter costume designer Jany Temime for the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. (Rachel Zoe, eat your heart out.) She confessed one of her style inspirations is Molly Ringwald in the ’80s flick Pretty in Pink. “I just love the way she put things together. It’s so different and unexpected.”

Most importantly, during her tenure playing a role as iconic as Princess Leia in Star Wars, Watson’s mastered the media, us included. “What advice would you give teen queen Miley Cyrus?” Diplomatically, and empathetically, she replies: “I would never tell anyone what to do. All I know is that it’s hard, really hard [being famous]. Once you’ve invited the media into your life, you have to live with it. Focusing on school helped me get through it.”

While some young stars are chewed up, spit out and left to negotiate fame on their own, the guiding hand of Warner Bros. studios helped Watson remain levelheaded. She explains Harry Potter movie execs were aware from the beginning they were going to change the course of her life and were sensitive to her needs: since the start, Watson has had the same driver, Nigel (“I just love him”), and on-set Potter hair and makeup team (“They’re there first thing in the morning until I take off my makeup at night”); when going out somewhere very public, bodyguards are willingly provided; and shoots are scheduled around her classes and exams, without question. “The publicity department was also very mindful about which media we [Watson, Radcliffe (Harry) and Grint (Ron)] were exposed to. They would send us on media junkets together so we could rely on each other.”

While she talks, it’s clear Watson finds comfort in her costars. “They’re very protective,” she says, and together they’ve survived the juggernaut of overnight fame, media scrutiny and the pressure of carrying the weight of the Harry Potter industry. Watson adores their friendship, in and out of character, because both are so honest. “I have a lot of guy friends. I love that I always know where I stand with them.” Although destined to headline with Radcliffe and Grint for another two years, she’s aware her life as she knows it is shifting. “I am in a transitional period in a lot of different ways. I am changing and making lots of decisions about my future. It’s a very exciting and slightly scary time.” And there’s plenty of speculation buzzing in the blogosphere about her next move–she’s planning to go to Cambridge; she’s reportedly becoming the poster girl for a major fashion label; and she is set to star in Napoleon and Betsy, as the object of the French emperor’s affection, a role originally offered to Scarlett Johansson. Whatever happens next, you can bet we will all be watching.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.—Having played Hermione in the Harry Potter movies, Emma Watson was used to acting around special effects to be filled in later, but her work in the computer-animated “The Tale of Despereaux” raised such guesswork to a new level.

Playing the sad Princess Pea, who at one point is kidnapped and thrust into a “Gladiator”-like arena by some fiendish rats, the 18-year-old English actress had to concentrate all of her performance in her voice, little knowing what the final product would look like.

“Honestly, I didn’t really know what to expect,” she said. “I read the script. They showed me some sketches of how Pea was going to look. I saw a couple of clips. Aside from that, I didn’t know where they were taking it.”

Over an interview in a beach-side hotel earlier this month, Watson discussed her surprise at the finished product, her decision to stay in school, her desire to act, and, of course, her ongoing life in the world of Harry Potter.

Pop Machine: What is it about acting with just your voice that’s different?

Emma Watson: To be honest, you feel like an idiot a lot of the time, particularly for my part, because it was quite physical: I was being kidnapped, and I was being dragged around, and there was a rat in my room. There were moments you had to be out of breath. You have to kind of re-create this in a dark room, and you have to be quite imaginative about it all. So when I’m screaming and being kidnapped, I was jogging on the spot for a couple of minutes beforehand trying to get me out of breath and get me in the moment.

PM: What surprised you the most when you finally saw it?

Watson: How much I liked it.

PM: ‘Cause you thought, ‘Oh, this is crap’ while you were making it?

Watson: No, not at all! [laughs] I guess you try and set your expectations at a certain level before you go and see a film. It exceeded my expectations.

PM: When I come across “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on cable, I think, ‘Oh, they were so little then.’ Do you do that?

Watson: It is strange. It is incredible how young we were, and we have been depicted in a time of our lives where we’ve changed so much, we look so different, we are so different. It’ll be over a decade when I finish making the Harry Potters, so it’s quite something.

PM: Are you filming now?

Watson: No, I start again in February to film “Deathly Hallows,” which will be split into two parts.

PM: Was this movie a nice break for you?

Watson: It was. It’s really nice to be part of something different. It’s nice to talk about something that isn’t Harry Potter, actually.

PM: So I’ll just ask you all Harry Potter questions now.

Watson: OK, thanks.

PM: At least now nobody’s asking you how the books are going to end.

Watson: Yeah. It’s funny, people really thought that we’d been entrusted with the endings, but no.

PM: I hear you like to sing.

Watson: Yes.

PM: Are you going to be the next Duffy?

Watson: [Laughs] She’s great, but I’d rather focus on my acting and get that really good before I branch out into anything else. So I guess it would be on film or on stage or whatever. I would love to do that.

PM: You’ve stayed in school while you’ve been doing all of this.

Watson: Mm-hmm. I go to university in September.

PM: You think it’s important to keep the schooling going rather than to be solely career focused?

Watson: Yeah. I hope that having my life and having an education will lengthen my career.

PM: Is that because it makes you a more well-rounded person?

Watson: Yeah. How as an actress are you meant to inhabit other people if you haven’t lived? How are you meant to play someone who gets the bus to work or has a part-time job or whatever if I’ve never experienced any of it myself or if I haven’t been to school? How does that make me someone that people can relate to? I don’t think it’s possible really.

PM: If you could change one thing about the entertainment business, what would it be?

Watson: All the baggage that comes with fame, being an actress. The down side to it is the intrusion into your life and this expectation that because they’ve seen you onscreen, they kind of have a right to you as a human being and personally and in your life.

PM: What’s the maddest you’ve gotten reading something about yourself?

Watson: I really have very little to complain about in terms of what’s written about me. The worst it gets is that I’m dating Dan [Radcliffe, who plays Harry] or Rupert [Grint, who plays Ron] or Tom [Felton, who plays Draco] or whoever it is. That’s kind of the silliest that they get, really.

PM: What do you think is the most misunderstood thing about what you do?

Watson: I guess that it looks incredibly glamorous, and in some ways it is and at some times it is, but if you’re really doing your job properly, then it’s tough. In the film industry you work very long hours, and making a film is a very intense process.

PM: Do you find that performing quieter scenes is harder than running and screaming?

Watson: Actually, it’s funny: I find it easier to cry than I do to laugh convincingly. It’s incredibly hard to pull off a laugh that feels natural take after take after take, that feels real. You can tell a fake laugh [snaps fingers] the minute you hear it, and that’s something I really struggle with more than producing tears.

PM: You can just turn on the waterworks.

Watson: Well, I’m a girl, aren’t I?
